TWO major institutions in the streaming industry, Netflix and Paramount Pictures, are set to battle to see who can control more of the creative industry.Â
The two companies have both begun bidding on Warner Bros Discovery, which owns DC Studios, Warner Bros Pictures, Cartoon Network, CNN, HBO and others.
Neither company would be a positive influence on WB. Being taken over by Netflix would mean Warner Bros movies would be in cinemas for very short times, if at all, and would instead release mostly to streaming on Netflix. However, being taken over by Paramount would mean a more conservative bent for WB, as Paramount, owners of Australia's Network 10, is quite close with Donald Trump in America and the Coalition in Australia.
Additionally, no matter which of the two companies purchases WB, it will mean that the victorious company would get far closer to a monopoly in the industry, being far larger than any other company in the industry. This has shown, in the most basic possible way, the move in Late Stage Capitalism towards monopolies.
