THE new Bolivian government, elected in August, has re-established diplomatic relations with 'Israel', after the previous government severed ties in 2023.
Bolivia was once governed by the Movement for Socialism (MAS), led by Evo Morales, since 2005. However, infighting between neoliberals led by Luis Arce and socialists led by Evo Morales resulted in electoral oblivion at this year's national elections, and the political right dominated, with a right-wing candidate, endorsed by the Christian Democratic Party, elected as President, and the left was destroyed.
The new government took over last month, and has been working at speed to undo all of the positive progress made since 2005.
Today, the Bolivian government announced that diplomatic relations with 'Israel' would be normalised once again, despite the ongoing genocide being committed by 'Israel', and Bolivia's previous principled stance on the issue.
The Bolivian left today is hopelessly disunited, with the pro-Morales camp and the pro-Arce camp fighting among themselves more than protesting against the new government.
It is unclear how the left can return to government, which proves the need for socialist parties to rapidly dismantle the ways for capital and bourgeois interests to sneak back in, and to entrench workers' power outside of a liberal system.
