FORMER General Manager at China Huarong International Holdings, Bai Tianhui has been executed for taking over 1.1 billion yuan (just under AU$234 million) in bribes.
Bai is the second former executive at China Huarong International Holdings to be executed, with the first, Lai Xiaomin, Bai Tianhui's former boss, executed in 2021 for similar crimes.
China Huarong International Holdings is a state-owned company, entirely owned by the Chinese government. It is rare for public servants to be put to death for corruption in China, however the scale of the corruption by both Lai and Bai necessitated their executions.
Bai was found guilty and sentenced in May of 2024, and his death sentence was reviewed and approved by the Supreme People's Court not long after.
He was allowed to meet with close relatives before his execution.
