THE Greens have condemned the Labor government's plan to expand offshore gas exploration to the Otway Basin region in Victoria's South-West.
The government has announced five new areas in the Otway Basin for exploration, which has led to condemnation from the Greens and other environmentalist groups.
The minor party has said that this is an "environmental betrayal" that goes against the government's commitments to the climate.
Senator Steph Hodgins-May, the Greens' resources spokesperson, has said that the expansion is "an early Christmas gift to the fossil fuel companies", condemning the Labor Party for its backflipping.
The Wilderness Society, similarly, has condemned the expansion, stating that the areas chosen are "wholly unsuitable" for exploration, and that the exploration will harm marine life, as well as endangered species.
The two-faced act led by the Labor Party on climate is severely detrimental to the fight against climate catastrophe, and the Labor government, in their many acts supporting fossil fuels companies, is complicit in the rising temperatures and rising number of natural disasters per year.
